COMMANDER'S
CORNER
Since my last Commander’s Corner letter to you, many events have happened.

First of all, I hope all of you and your family had a great and safe summer!
The post completed Mike Lyens’s Deck and Handicap Ramp through the donation for materials from Home Depot. George Wilmore coordinated the team which includes: George Riddick, Wilson Rountree, Jimmy Riddick, Dave Berger and Lee Fortier. A first time for this post and a job well done!!

In July myself, Ken Rominger, Dale Wright, Al Lott, Jimmy Riddick and Daryl McKinley attended the Department Convention. We voted on Department Officers and turned in 37lbs of tabs for the Ronald McDonald pop tab program. Our elected department officers for 2016-2017 are: Department Commander David Shore, Department Adjutant Frank Stancil, National Executive Committeeman Jeff Joyner, Alternate Executive Committeeman Patricia Harris, Historian Larry Rozier, Judge Advocate Gaither Keener, Chaplain Tierian "Randy" Cash, Department Service Officer James McMinn.
In Mid-July Ken and I attended the American Legion College. This was my first and Ken’s second time. I was very impressed, got a pretty good insight of the different functions of the American Legion. There were several classes and I was not able to attend them all. I plan to go back next year. I recommend that every legionnaire should attend this college at least once.

I am proud to say that our post now has a Sons of the American Legion “Little Man Broughton” Squadron 126 Charter. Squadron Commander is Jimmy Riddick, Adjutant is Jacob Draper and Sergeant-at-Arms is Corey Riddick. Legionnaires if you know anyone who would like to join the post squadron, please contact Jimmy Riddick Cell # (252) 489-9725 for application.

Our July 2016 Family Day Picnic was a success we had approximately 60 people which included Legionnaires and their family. Plenty of food, music and games. The Special Events Committee did a fantastic job for such a short notice. Erica Newman did a great job getting her committee to put this event together. Thanks to Ron Ben-Dov who communicated to the Managers of Elizabeth City and Hertford Food Lion in the donation of Hotdog and Hamburger Buns. Wilson Rountree, Jimmy Riddick, Gary Draper and Jacob Draper did an awesome job cooking the hamburgers and hot dogs. Thanks to the Auxiliary Unit 126 for the preparation of the baked beans. Thanks to all that helped in the clean up!! This event has demonstrated the Team Effort that I am looking for at our post! My Thanks for your support and dedication!!
On July 27, 2016 at our Post Meeting Ginny and Ed Bick in memory of her son William B Richardson dedicated a plaque which contains a US flag, that was given to her son from the USAF commemorating the final mission 60 years of the airlift legacy. This plaque certifies that the flag was flown over Rhein-Main Air Base, Germany on September 30, 2005.
With a sorrow heart it is sad to say that Comrade Jim Tepper has passed on to the Supreme Commander. He will surely be missed at this post!! Jim was devoted to his family, his church, his post and to anyone that needed his help. He was one of the first legionnaires who put together our fund raiser raffle, which has helped keep our post financially sound. Jim always kept me on my toes; it was always enjoyable to work with him on our legion events!

Hertford Indian Summer Festival and the Ahoskie Heritage Day is just around the corner hope to see you there selling raffle tickets or just out there enjoying the festivities.

Please check out the events section of this website for upcoming events.

December 31 2016 is just around the corner, if you have not already turned in your membership dues, please try to do so by December 31, 2016. I would like to see us again at 100% membership.

Sincerely,
Rick Caporale
